1903- American Commission reduced 50 Towns to 17
On April 4, 1903, however, these 50 towns were reduced to 17 with the passage of Act No. 719, the title of which read “AN ACT REDUCING THE FIFTY-ONE MUNICIPALITIES OF THE PROVINCE OF ILOILO TO SEVENTEEN.”

Banate (Barotac, Viejo and Anilao)
Buenavista (Navalas, Nagaba, and Nueva Valencia)

Dumangas (Barotac Nuevo)
Guimbal (Igbaras and Tubungan)
Iloilo ( 4 Suburbs La Paz, Mandurriao, Molo, and Jaro)
Janiuay (Lambunao)
Leon (San Miguel and Alimodian)
Miagao (San Joaquin)
Passi (Dueñas, San Enrique, and Calinog)
Pototan (Mina and Dingle)
Santa Barbara (Pavia, Leganes, Zarraga, and Lucena)

1904 - Pavia and Leganes were annexed to Iloilo in 1904.
1908 - Jaro reverted to Municipality and incorporated
1910- San Joaquin became an independent town again.
1916- Maasin became municipality again .
1917- Ajuy became municipality again .
1918 - Nagaba separated from Buenavista renamed Jordan
- Executive Order No. 45 signed by Governor General Francis Burton Harrison separating Alimodian
1919- Igbaras separated from Guimbal became a municipality again.
1920- On January 1, 1920 a petition as granted Casimiro Andrada was first president of Carles
- Estancia became a municipality again under through Governor Gregorio Yulo
1921- Concepcion separated from Sara became a municipality again.
- Pavia became municipality again .
- Calinog became municipality again .
1926 - Barotac Nuevo became a municipality again under Bernardo Bayona Siaotong as president
1937 - Iloilo charted as City , 4 suburbs and annexed Jaro, which then included Leganes
1938 - Tubungan became a municipality again.
1939 - Anilao became a municipality again.
1940- Zarraga and Leganes became a municipality again.
1969- Mina became a municipality again.
1984 -Lemery became a municipality again.
1947 - Lucena became a municipality again. The word “New” was added in 1955,
1957 - San Enrique became a municipality again.
1961 - Lawigan, a barrio of San Joaquin, became a town iby virtue of Executive Order No. 436 issued by then President Carlos Garcia.
March 18, 1967 - The Supreme Court decision declared the order as unconstitutional and Lawigan became a barrio again.
But here's a mystery: Isn't it that Viejo means "old" and Nuevo means "new"? So why was it then that a town founded in 1750 was named Barotac Viejo while another town founded 40 years earlier, or in 1710, was named Barotac Nuevo? Which one is new and which one is old then?
