B. Power and Energy
1. Biggest in Visayas - 404 Megawatts
1. The Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) generates 164-MW of Electricity building a surplus of 81 MW. It's benefecial because it reduced dependence on imported oil products and Panay major export is coal. PEDC is the first and sole coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City that generates 164 megawatts of power with power purchase agreements with PECO and all other electric cooperatives in Panay Island.GBPC invested 20 Billion for this project.
In October 16 , 2012 , Metrobank affiliate, Chair Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC) is planning to expand its coal-fired power plant in Lapaz , Iloilo City and will be completed in 2014. It will nearly double the facility’s capacity from 164 megawatts to 314 MW. Its subsidiary, Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC). This is confirmed by Francisco Sebastian to supply several province of Visayas.
The Panay Diesel Power Plant operates as a subsidiary of National Power Corporation a diesel-fired power plant and sister company of PEDC operates a 72-megawatt diesel power plant in Barangay Ingore, La Paz district. Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) president Arthur Aguilar said that Iloilo's power consumption has doubled than the national average. An investment boom is currently stirring Iloilo City and the power demand will be on an upswing with a five to six percent hike every year in Panay.
He said the third unit of 150 megawatts (MW) is the biggest in the entire Visayas area that will help bring in a total of 404 MW in Panay, Guimaras and Negros islands
Jaime Azurin, PEDC executive vice president for commercial and business development, said that 2016 is critical for the Visayas with no new power capacities and the current supply will not suffice until 2020.
Aguilar said there is now a growing confident business community in Iloilo City with a world class investment site and all ingredients for economic development are in Iloilo City
The additional plant called PEDC-3 generates another 150-megawatt with a total of 404 MW supply using latest Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler simulator technology.
It transmitted power to Visayas Electrical grid or Power Grid in Santa Barbara, Iloilo , an Electrical substation of the National Grip Corporation of Philippines(NGCP) that provides energy to Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), Iloilo Electric Cooperatives ILECO I of Tigbauan , ILECO II of Dumangas , and ILECO III of Sara , the Antique Electric Cooperative (ANTICO) and Guimaras Electric Cooperative of the Panay-Guimaras Power Supply Consortium.

2. Coal-fire Power Plant -- 135 MW
A. Brown Co., Inc. (ABCI) has built 24 Billion coal-fired power plant in Conception , Iloilo generating 270 MW , enough to supply 58 , 000 of houses of Davao , Cebu , Gen San , Cagayan De Oro and Bacolod City.
3. Mina Biomass Power Plant - 17.5 MW
The Mina Biomass Power Plant at Cabalabaguan, Mina, Iloilo that can generate 17.5-MW of electricity . The project has received tremendous support from the Catholic Church, the Government of the United Kingdom, the Philippine Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Department of the Environment and Natural Resources and National Philippine Government. 4. Jalaur Hydroelectric Plant - 6.6 MW
Jalaur Hydroelectric Plant will be putting up 6.6-megawatt hydro-electric power plant to supplement the not only power supply but also and augment the supply of good quality and potable water for domestic and industrial consumption in the province.
5: Power Plant in Pototan , ILoilo
The 3 ILECO in Iloilo
There are 3 electric cooperative company in Iloilo namely:
ILECO 1 - Tigbaun , Iloilo
ILECO 2 - Pototan , Iloilo
ILECO 3 - Sara , Iloilo
More than 100 megawatts or 38 percent of the power supply of Negros comes from Iloilo and Cebu; it will be 55 percent by year 2020
if no new power plant is put up in Negros Island Region.
Iloilo - The powerhouse of Negros Island Region and Visayas
If Iloilo and Cebu will re-direct its power to itself due to increasing demand of electricity , 50% or half of Negros Occidental including Bacolod - power will go out.
To avoid this catastrophe , Power Supply in Iloilo will be increased.
