Honestly, the site needs editing. The grammar and spelling mostly unacceptable. I do appreciate the hardwork and the expressive thougths whoever did this website, but if this has to be looked and read by an outside world, we need then to realize that web surfers reading in this site making good or bad comments really reflects who we are. I am proud to be an Ilonggo and its heritage and am sure every Ilonggos feel the same way.

There is true progress in philippine cities right now and i am happy Iloilo is a part of this trend, however, i would just like to correct the notion that Cebu City has considerable manufacturing facilities. Cebu's manufacturing base is concentrated in mandaue and lapulapu cities, NOT in cebu city.

Paul, I agree the facts as known now are severally inaccurate. There should have been a caveat that the actual current political subdivisions were not prevalent during certain periods in the past. If only to shed light as a geo-historical perspective, the original Iloilo City was less than 100 hectares in area, the rest were swamps. The present Iloilo City proper district should be around 500 hectares now. It was Jaro (now just a city district) that was the most expansive. Mandaue and LapuLapu are now separate political entities but were they always like that? The industrials are there because of their proximity to the access to the port facilities along Mactan Strait. The same is true with Iloilo, the industrials were never in Iloilo city proper district, they were along the proximities of port facilities along the rivers that originally belonged to Jaro.

true and agree... but we must survive, we have no choice we born and exist as a cebuano...., a lots of things to do in metro cebu right now... but this is our way life..... business is the best way to survive.... and the rest is evolving through time.... that's why we need to work hard more than the others... because we know our land and geography... we know, the time and people in cebu have a favorable way again to survive... the more we're like this like that, the more speaks itself maybe whatever it takes.... i am cebuano my land is not fertile... my land is not blessed in agricultural aspect, but i have a choice, the best way to survive "do a business" whatever it takes.... maybe someday if i'm like the lhuiller, gaisano, aboitez, gokongwie, Gotianun.... i can help employ some filipinos even ilonggos....

Good Day @ Cebuano , first of all , I am glad you have share your thoughts here . Progress of Cebu is evident despite it is plain-deprived . It teaches Iloilo a good lesson. One can make its way to the top by investing and consider manufacturing to its economy . On the other hand , Iloilo can teach Cebu a lesson . To continously strive to balance the gap between the rich and poor through integrated approach , Agrarian , food stamps and social services... The society and government can be gauge of its failure when small number of its society is living in very luxurious lifestyle while the majority of families barely eat every single day.

@cebuano corn eating , saying Cebu is underdog to Iloilo based on Government Data is not quite accurate inference and its not my position anyhow . About investing----- Ilongo will contribute to the investors who believe doing business in Iloilo is profitable. Thus , if you believe us to be " superior" , you may invest without forfeiting the fact that our superiority is based on investors confidence that their business will prosper here . If you may not invest, someone else will. Purportedly , Gaisano will invest here and by doing so , it does not make Gaisano inferior nor even Iloilo , why? because the fact that our superiority is based on investors confidence that their business will prosper here

I've read through your article about why Iloilo is the sole Queen City of the South and it was very informative. I like the way you defended Iloilo and somehow I'm amazed by your patriotism towards our "mother land". However may I remind you that this article sounds very regionalistic and that kind of thought hinders our country from a unified development. Well just let Cebu continue with her delusions of grandeur for it won't last anyway. May I also share with you that it was during the 30's when Cebu's "FALSE" claim to the title begun. I've read an article about the economic conditions of certain provinces after world war two, it was noted there that during the 1930's Iloilo's economy started to decline while that of cebu is rising fast marked by heavy development during that decade.

Vic, your facts are incomplete and too biased favoring only iloilo city. Your facts and figure for poverty among family is until 2009 only. If you look at 2012 data of NCSB, poverty level in iloilo is 22.9 while cebu has 23.5 or a .6 difference. Significantly, Cebu was able to reduced its poverty by a big percentage in the last 5 years while iloilo has not.

To Romy – I know you came up with such interpretation of the data because at first glance they are apparently favoring Cebu without deeper investigation and analysis using various sources . The answers are written there if you can read between the line. Here’s the social science behind at article -
Reply
Vic, as i have said your data is only up to 2009. Please have a complete data for 2012 and your interpretation willl not be largely BIASED against Cebu and completely PRAISEWORTYHY for your beloved/mindset queen city Iloilo. You only present facts which are favoring Iloilo and present outdated incomplete data descriminating Cebu so you could show others that Iloilo is the rightful Queen. How could you be so preoccupied with this illusion that your city is the Queen where majority or more than 98% (even majority of your constituents) believed and acknowledged Cebu as the undisputed/bestseller Queen City of the South. Lets compare figures. Iloilo's City population 450T approx vs Cebu City population 850T approx(not 1 million as you insist) but its income is P1.3B vs P4B (not even 1/3).

Hello Vic. I think the logic of Jun is false! His first premise referred to a Living queen who bestowed to Iloilo the title Queen city of the South. While in Cebu there was no Queen who gave it the title as Queen city of the South. Cebuanos are presumptuous to claim it without presenting evidence. When you grab something from someone it is called robbery. Yes Cebu grab the title from Iloilo, the rightful owner of the crown.

Iloilo is known to be the city of love, I don't argue with that, and that's all that it can claim for now. I'm an Ilonggo from Iloilo, but I don't have to read or know the facts or the history of why Iloilo is to be Queen City of the south. In the first place why didn't they claim it? I just have to look around and I can tell Iloilo is not as advanced compared to Cebu. I don't feel the advancement of infrastructure, technology and the claim of riches that Ilonggos have when I was living there. I left the place for Cebu because there is nothing there for me, feeling ko wala ko future didto, in all honesty ang wage dira is provincial rate di ka mabuhi. I loved Cebu! Cebu has got the pulse, the old is mixed with the new, it is the New York of the Philippines, the people are smarter, they embrace individuality, mas dako ang sweldo, kung mang resign... damo pwede applayan nga workplace, kag kusog sila sa komersyo. There are many other things that I loved about Cebu, not that I don't love Iloilo but it's just different. If there's any place in the Philippines that I would like to live in, it is Cebu.

Hi Vic, your article is very informative. Thank you for posting this. I would like to correct that some places you mentioned for the 80's places were actually opened in the mid and late 90's like Calzada, Barracks, the bar in La Paz with container vans and actually most of it. I was in Iloilo in 1995 up but only the Sarabia Hotel's Disco Bar was opened till the wee hours and it is crowded only during Fridays and Saturdays. Buddy's Bar was opened but not much customers. You forgot to mention Marina and Ocean City where they have a Live Band singing for the customers and the Highway 21 at General Luna St. (Pro-Friends and BPI at present). Atrium Mall opened around this time too. Keep up the good works and more power to you!

In 2014 Cebu contributed 47ish billion peso to BIR and IRA was at 12ish billion having a surplus of 35 billion peso. It is a far second to NCR at 1 trillion + peso (can't remember the exact number). The reason for the huge jump is because now the Large Tax Payers Office is now reflected to Cebu's BIR collection. Before it was reflected in NCR. Now here's me hoping for a federal form of government for a more progressive Philippines.

as far as I know, the moniker existed not because of economic progress but of virtue. Iloilo will always be the Queen's favored city, and cebu will just be famously known as the Queen City of the South because the people think they deserve it because of their economy's progress. They bear the crown without succession and the true meaning behind it. (Manila for me is the closest as to being the Queen City because they were noble and loyal to our flag and they didn't succumb to Spain.)
