First in Visayas - Green Building
Iloilo City Hall has a roof topped with solar panel that will save $17,000 per year and prevent 36 metric tons of carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere. The building’s solar roof will provide enough electricity to power all of the air conditioning units on the building’s entire seventh floor, and a rainwater harvesting system placed on top of the building will provide water for the City Hall’s toilets.waste-water treatment facilities.
Iloilo is commited to purge more Oxygen
Planting trees is the key for symbiotic relationship of Ilongos and it's atmosphere. Forests have helped balance the atmosphere's carbon equation by sucking up large amounts of the greenhouse gas.
Global warming happens when much carbon dioxide is released into the air creating a Green-House effect and depletion of ozone layer. the biggest culprit behind global warming. It will have catastrophic result to human life due to risk of disasters and breached in the food production . Global warming is the number is intensifying bad weather condition , violent storms flooding landslide and destruction of reef .
Cebu Toxic Air
Cebu City , very close to Iloilo is emitting particulate matter eight times higher than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) limit Levels of particles that can cause cancer, such as benzene and 1,3-Butadiene, were also above the European standards based on the air sampling done last July 1, 201. It has been a problem for years. With manufacturing industries , buses , overpopulation and motor vehicles . All carbon emissions are stored in the atmosphere in the ozone layer. This is dangerous because there is no end to this. Manufacturing industries such as China has similar problem.
Strong Performer
The 2012 Environmental Performance Index prepared by Yale University and the Colombia University in the United States has ranked the Philippines as a “strong performer”, outranking the US, Australia, South Korea and Singapore. The study gave the Philippines perfect scores in growing forest stock and forest cover.
Philippine Clean Air Act is Government intervention for quality air . The Environment and Natural Resources Office is constantly monitoring the Ambient Air of Iloilo City through a special device that monitors presense of high level of Carbon Monoxide , Nitrogen Oxide ,Sulfur Dioxide that suggest "air pollution .

environment and economy is concerned.
Iloilo is also the Bamboo capital of the Philippines thats why it will be hosting ASEAN World Bamboo Organization convention in August. Bamboo is also recognized for its potential in sequestering carbon. The study revealed that bamboo can store 39.8 to 44.3 percent of carbon in its total biomass.
Maasin Reforestation

Ensuring the Clean Air in Iloilo City
The City Environment and Natural Resources Office collaborate with Land Transportation office (LTO) to ensure that motor vehicles have yearly inspection and undergone emission test of all motor vehicles (during registration)- Anti-smoke belching (roadside apprehension) thus reduction of greenhouse gas emission and and air pollution.
Carbon Emissions of Vehicles were checked
Greenhouse gas avoided - 29,329 kgs/day upon establishment of Jeepney Terminals to regulate the entry of provincial jeepneys in the city. thus avoided dangerous gases in Atmosphere:
- Nitrous Oxide avoided - 111, 969 gm/day
- Sulfate Oxide avoided - 2,177.75 gm/day
- Particulate Matter avoided - 12,959.37 gm/day
Iloilo High way - is tree-lined
Establishment of air monitoring network
Establishment of Airsheds Management of areas below air quality standards
Iloilo installed environment friendly Lamps
Conversion of street lamps from fluorescent or
incandescent lamp to High Pressure Sodium lamps
Over 10,000 lamps converted, saved more than 9000 kw-h per day, over 5000 kg of greenhouse gas avoided everyday
General Luna have existing tree-lined street , and in Diversion Road to the airport.

Iloilo River Conservation
There's no other places who express love for River and its restoration except in Iloilo
Iloilo River have 22 mangrove species out of 35 known species in Philippines. It has the rare plant and animal called Sonneratia Ovata ( a mangrove rare in the region ) and metapenaues insolitus ( shrimp rare in the country)
River in major cities of Philippines is fastly becoming dead and polluted especially Pasig River which is called " The River of Shame" with its ultra-black color. River in Iloilo is exception to the rule . This is according to Department of Environment and Natural Resources Undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio, Jr. during the first International River Summit held here in Iloilo City from May 30 to June 1, 2012.
Restoring the River - which gives Iloilo a name
There has been massive clean up , one of them is Philippine Navy , there was mangrove reforestration , demolishing illegal fishpens and fishtraps, and other illegal structures. Co-management through multi-agency cooperation has been done. Civic clubs , schools were involved for clean up and reforestration . Intensified through social marketing ( forums , worshops , radio and TV promotions , billboards ,
leaflets , posters ).
International Meeting - River Summit held in Iloilo
Iloilo have hosted the first river summit because of its obvious political intervention to save and restore Iloilo River. Leading experts in the field of river management, biodiversity, and global climate change from U.S.A., Canada, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Philippines and other Asian countries have converge in Iloilo City to share sustainable river basin management practices that can be replicated to other cities.
Apparently , there's no Industrial wastewater in Iloilo, let alone Commercial wastewater . They are to make their wasterwater treatment facility.
The major contributory that makes Iloilo River is the residential water. Dungon creek is a long winding river from various Barangays of Mandurriao and Jaro . It is contributory to the Batiano River.

Commitment for River
Dredging Machine called " Water Master" arrived on September 2012. It is purchased by the Government through DPWH from abroad. The machine will remove heavy siltation that impedes the flow of water to the river thereby resulting to floodings in low lying areas . DPWH have begin dredging by May 2013 . About 1,000 informal settlers living the areas of two creeks slate were relocated on March 2013.

Iloilo Organic Farming
The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) defines organic farming as a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved.
Iloilo keep on promoting organic farming not only to promote healthy diet but also to ensure a safe and sustainable environment amidst the global threat of climate change.

The Solar Power Plant - Miag-ao Iloilo
The Solar Power Plant is located in Brgy. Narat-an, Miagao, Iloilo Phase 1 within 14 hectares of land. Once completed the solar power plant will be about 19 to 20 hectares wide with capacity of 5.67-megawatt supply of electricity in Iloilo. . having wide raw lands, is also one of the areas in Panay that has good solar radiation. The solar plant holds about a total of about 18,000 solar panels that will help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and the costly price of electric bills. The solar plant , as renewable source of energy , does not produce waste materials that can create damage in the environment with creation of around 200 jobs.
